Albufeira is one of the main tourist attractions in Portugal. It is a city in the Algarve region, located along the coastline in the south. Each year, around 5 million tourists travel to Algarve to enjoy the sun, the beaches and the great atmosphere.
The population of Albufeira amounts to approx. 22,000 inhabitants. The city is located about 40 kilometres west of Faro where also the closest airport is. Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is 250 kilometres away.
Albufeira, considered the capital of tourism in Portugal, has a 30 km long coastline with sandy beaches, cliffs, reefs and crystal clear water. The day-time temperature ranges from 15 to 30 degrees Celsius on average throughout the year.
Albufeira is a natural beauty and offers a wide range of activities such as golf, wind-surfing and horse riding. In Guia, you can visit Zoomarine–Albufeira, one of the most popular theme parks in the Algarve. It is a mixture of a marine centre, zoo and amusement park. From the marina you can enjoy sea safaris to watch some amazing caves, cliff and rock formations as well as dolphins, if you are lucky.
The tourist areas of Albufeira are divided into two main areas. First you have Areias de São João, known colloquially as 'The Strip', which is a nightlife oriented area with many clubs, restaurants and bars. Secondly, you have the more relaxed Old Town, with its lovely decorated central square surrounded by street cafés and restaurants. The area offers great shopping if you like clothes, leather and gifts etc.
